SUBH, DUBH, AGUS CNUASACH NA TÍRE – JAM, BLACK, AND THE FAT OF THE LAND
Cnuas: nuts or wild fruit. Cnuasach: garnered or gathered things…
In a series of indoor and outdoor workshops artists Garrett Keogh and Caoimhe Dunn will offer engagement with the Irish language (at all levels) exploring hands-on the traditions, stories and lore of foraging and preserving local wild fruits, the elderflower, bilberry, and blackberry.
With field trips to gather the fruits and flowers, and demonstrations of cordial, jam, and chutney making, participants will encounter the language outside of rote and exam-oriented learning.
The group will design and make málaí sealgaire, foraging bags; and dialanna, diaries, journals in which they will record their experiences, recipes, and cnuasach focail, their gathered words.
